October's Treat: DIY Ombre Fur Vest

Ombre is all the rage and I'm loving the trend for fall! A few weeks ago when I was at Teen Vogue's event, I saw so many chic ombre fur vests. I decided to take my own cream fur vest and make it a project. It took a short amount of time to complete and I loved the result! Follow the steps to make an ombre vest of your own!

Materials: faux fur vest (preferably white or cream), gloves, stainless steel pot, RIT dye (in the color of your choice), towel, spoon

FYI: You can get RIT dye at any craft store like Michael's, Hobby Lobby or Jo-Ann Fabrics

Instructions:

1. Fill a stainless steel pot with warm water and set it on a stove burner. Then wait until the water begins to boil.

2. Put gloves on. The dye is an eye irritant so it's important to keep your gloves on the entire time that you're working with the RIT dye.

3. Pour the RIT dye into the water and mix the dye around with a spoon.

4. Submerge the bottom half of the vest into the water and hold it there. How long you leave it in the water is up to you. The longer you keep the vest in the water, the darker the color will be. (The water will be very hot, be careful not to burn your hands!)

5. When you're happy with the color of the vest, take it out of the pan and quickly rinse it with cool water. (Remember the color will appear darker while it's wet.)

6. Lay the vest on a towel and let it dry for about 12 hours.

7. Make sure you clean the pot, spoon and any other surface that was touched by the RIT dye with bleach and water. (The dye is toxic so be sure to thoroughly clean all of your materials!)

8. When your vest is dry, rock your new look and be right on trend!

Teen Vogue Fashion U 2012: Top Shop Event NYC

Hey everyone--
Wow, what a whirlwind weekend Teen Vogue Fashion University was! By far the best event was the Soiree at the Top Shop store on Broadway and Broome. It was such a fun time. I'm so thankful that Top Shop and Teen Vogue planned this for us Fashion U students. It was lovely!

The night was filled with free makeovers, a surplus of sweets and mocktails, personal shopper treatment, special discounts and of course all of the stylish Top Shop items fashionista/o could want.

All in all, the Top Shop soiree was a very Carrie Bradshaw night for me. It doesn't get any better than that!

Glitter meringues anyone? Servers carried around a variety of treats on silver platters, including these adorable but yummy sparkly meringues.
Top Shop's delicious candy bar of sweets.
Top Shop's mocktails were served in very fashionable martini glasses and were quite tasty!
Top Shop's boutique was filled with only the chicest of clothes. Teen Vogue Fashion U's students were treated to the personal shopper treatment. Meaning that we didn't have to wait in line to check out and we got to purchase our items in the private personal shopping room. It was incredible to be fed little pink cupcakes on a gorgeous couch while I paid for my items.

Top Shop and Teen Vogue had a bright and bold back drop for guests to take pretty pictures with!

I Got A Milkshake For You

Hey everyone--
I hope you all had a fabulous fall weekend. Mine was filled with football games and festivals, I felt very festive for the season! I attended an Italian festival on Saturday which was a great time.I had the most amazing tiramisu and an adorable cover band played Italian songs. It was lovely. It was also fun checking out the street style at the festival!

This look took me back to my childhood. I used to put together these all pink outfits growing up. I had these neon hot pink pants that I thought looked so fierce. Pink has always been my favorite color, but now I try my best to keep my monochromatic looks in check.

Well, I'll be hard at work again this week! Tell me again why I'll need chemistry?
Happy Monday friends! Check out my latest post for College Fashionista

My Love's Too Big For You My Love

Hey guys--
I feel very blessed to have had such a great weekend. I got to spend some much needed time with my family and friends, it was so nice! I went bowling and to the movies and I hadn't been to either in a very long time. It was fun to get into the Halloween spirit with a scary movie! And despite my pitiful bowling skills, I cannot wait to go again.

I hope your October is off to a great start! I love this month. I'm terribly excited for Halloween. Candy and dressing up.. two of my favorite things.

Check out my latest post for CollegeFashionista! Happy Tuesday everyone!
